Botox Eyebrow Lift: Cost & Possible Side Effects

Botox eyebrow lift is a procedure that is used for removing facial lines and also to lift the brows thereby improving how the face looks. There may be wrinkles on the forehead or between the eyebrows due to aging. The more we age, the more our skin loses elasticity and sags. This sagging results to moderate or severe lines on the forehead.

Younger people may also have lower eyebrows and lines not because they are old but because their skin is no longer tight. Botox can be used to improve skin sagging, lift the eyebrows and fade frown lines in persons from 18 years and above.

Botox is made from a dangerous toxin called botulinum toxin type A. When this toxin enters the body, it causes the muscles to freeze temporarily, this is why only a strand of the toxin is used in producing the botox injection. Botox can be used for both medical and cosmetic purposes because it can block the nerves from sending signals to the paralyzed muscles. When used for cosmetic purposes, it freezes the muscles and makes them unable to contract like they should while the wrinkles and lines smoothens out.

Botox injection is non-surgical and can be used to treat:

  • Chin wrinkles
  • Smile lines
  • Worry lines
  • Eyebrow and forehead creases
  • Crow’s feet
  • Jaw tension
  • Dimple chin

Most people have lines between their eyebrows (frown lines). These lines run across the forehead horizontally as well. These lines can be caused by loosed and sagged skin which is one feature of aging, they can also be formed when the muscles around the forehead and eyebrows are in repetitive movements. The eyebrows may also be so close to the eyes thereby giving the face an unbalanced look.

A perfect eyebrow arch is beautiful and attractive, this is why women lift up their brows with makeup so as to give their face a perfect, feminine look. Botox eyebrow lift involves injecting the harmless toxin in the areas around the brows. The shots paralyze the muscles and makes them relaxed; as the muscles are relaxed, the wrinkles on the forehead and eyebrows smoothen out.

The shot also makes the muscles around the forehead to pull up the paralyzed muscles between the brows, as the muscles are lifted up, the eyes are more open. Botox injection is also given at the end of the brows to freeze the muscles there while the forehead muscles pull up that area as well. The advantages botox has over the traditional brow lift is that there is no need for incision and cuts, it is non surgical.

Hooded eyes are when the eyelids droop lower than normal due to excess skin folding down from the brow bones. This can be a defect from birth or caused by aging, excess exposure to sun, nerve damage, eye disease or injury. Hooded eyes makes it difficult for makeup to be applied on the eyelids, it causes the eyes to have a tired look and can interfere with your vision if they droop so much.

One way to correct hooded eyes apart from undergoing surgery is by having Botox injection. When the shot is injected, the depressor muscle that causes the eyebrows to droop is frozen and the muscles that elevate the brows lift the droopy brows thereby making the eyes to be more open. However, if the hooded eyes have excess skin, Botox may not be the best option, you may need surgery.

Knowing the injection sites for eyebrow lift is very important as any mistake can fault the whole look. The injector must have an intricate anatomy of the face and detailed knowledge of the muscles under the skin. It is advised to start on either side of the face under the orbital rim (the anterior edge of the eye), this area is the key site. Other key muscles to be paralyzed or injected are:

i. Corrugator Muscles: The small pyramidal muscles close to the eyebrows and is above the nose.

ii. Orbicularis Oculi: The muscle that is found on the eyelids, its function is to open and close the eyelids.
When these sites are injected, the frontalis muscle (the muscle that covers the forehead) pulls the eyebrows easily and freely.

Using Botox to lift eyebrows cost more than other botox treatment because for the eyebrow lifting, more areas are worked on which requires more injections. Also, if you are treating hooded eyes and general eyebrow lift, you will be charged more than just hooded eyes. This means that there are two major ways of determining the cost of botox eyebrow lift;

  • The areas to be injected.
  • How many units to be used.

The cost of Botox eyebrow lift can be up to $800 for each visit. You should know that botox injection for eyebrow lift is considered a cosmetic treatment so medical insurance will not cover the cost.

Before the Procedure

You may have to stay away from supplements, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs like ibuprofen and products made with NSAIDs like aspirin for a week before your appointment. This is because these drugs and products can make the blood vessels thinner which may cause you to bleed more than you should.

You will also avoid alcohol at least 48 hours before getting the injection, taking alcohol prior to the treatment time can block your blood platelets. The treatment is quick and straightforward so you do not have to pack things for sleepover in the hospital.

During the Procedure

Your doctor will assess your face and mark out areas to be injected. The eyebrows are delicate part as they are close to the eyes, proper care must be taken so as not to injure any nerve and cause problems to the eyes. After assessment, your doctor applies anaesthetic cream to help reduce discomfort and pain. Then the injections are given in different places to paralyze the muscles. The treatment will take few minutes to be done.

After the procedure

You can go back to your normal activities, botox does not require recovery time or bed rest. You should avoid touching or massaging your face so that you do not prevent the injection from spreading and getting settled. You should also avoid supplements, alcohol and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs for a week after the injection. This is to help your blood vessels repair faster and allow blood to flow smoothly to the face. You should also avoid working out for at least two hours after the treatment.

The results are not immediate, it will take you few weeks to seeing changes. Although in some people, significant results do not show until a month after the injection. Botox injection results can only last between 3 to 4 months, some can last up to 6 months. When you notice the effects of the injection fading off, you should book another appointment (the American Academy of Dermatology).

1. Mild Side Effects that will fade away with time are:

  • Bruising
  • Redness
  • Numbness around the eyebrows
  • Mild headache
  • Swelling

2. Serious Side Effects that will require immediate doctor’s attention are:

  • Difficulty in breathing
  • Eating or swallowing difficulty
  • Change in speech

One way to prevent or minimize having any of the serious complications of botox eyebrow lift is to get the injection from a licensed and experienced practitioner. You should never buy the botox by yourself or inject it into your skin on your own, it is very dangerous and risky.

You can get the injection from the following:

  • Plastic surgeon
  • Dermatologist
  • Physician assistant
  • Nurse practitioner
  • Medical doctors
  • Beauty expert

There is no much difference between the traditional botox injection and baby botox, the only difference is that baby Botox uses small doses of the injection. It performs the same function of removing wrinkles and lifting the eyebrows but produces a smoother and more natural look. The procedure is the same, the side effects are almost the same and the duration is same as well. This trend has become popular among plastic surgeons and it is ideal for patients with healthy skin and body.

The cost of getting a baby Botox is lesser than the traditional Botox because lesser units are used for the procedure. According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery in 2918, the cost of botox in the United States is $311 per procedure.

The eyebrows has a role in giving the face a perfect look, this is why Botox injection was introduced to lift the brows when they are low or droopy and to remove lines between them. Botox is very effective in doing these things and making the skin smoother and relaxed. The cost may not be the same everywhere due to the units that may be needed and the experience of the injector.

You should know that this method of treatment is temporary and the results can fully be seen after few weeks. Use the services of a licensed and experienced professional to reduce the chances of having serious complications.
