Gummy Bear Breast Implants: Disadvantages, Cost & Precaution

Over the years, the number of people who go into the hospital asking for a breast implant e.g gummy bear breast implants has increased.
You are probably here wondering if you should get breast implantation or not, how dangerous is it? How much will it cost you and so many other things you are probably wondering about.

There are several types of breast implants and the include:

★ Saline breast implants

★ Structured saline breast implants

★ Silicone breast implants

★ Round breast implants

★ Smooth breast implants

★ Textured breast implants

★ Gummy bear breast implants

However, our focus in this article is on the Gummy bear breast implants.

Breast implants are artificial devices that can be used to change the size, shape, and contour of your breast. Gummy bear breast implants are one of the most recommended breast implants worldwide.

Dr. Grant Stevens, a prominent plastic surgeon, had coined the name “Gummy bear breast implants”, because “when cut in half, the implant is stable and retains its shape, much like the chewy gummy bear candies”, he said.

So even when the shell is broken, these implants retain their forms, making them the most long-lasting and most recommended breast implants.

Most breast implants contain either silicone gel or saline solution, but gummy bear breast implants are made with both silicone shell and silicone gel filling. The consistency of this gel filling is thicker compared to that of other breast implants.

Also, gummy bear breast implants leave the breast looking and feeling naturally soft to touch.

Although gummy bear breast implants do not lose their forms even when damaged, all things are bound to wear out eventually.

However, the longevity of this implant has not been accurately assessed, especially since it had not been in the market long enough.

Gummy bear breast implants have many advantages over other types of implants. It is also more expensive, although costs differ from doctor to doctor.

Some factors that influence the cost are:

Doctor’s technique, office address, recovery time of patient.

You will need to consider these factors before you fix an appointment with a surgeon.

Patients have made reports on receiving breast implants on a variety of symptoms such as muscle aches, joint pains, autoimmune disease, and so on.

Breast implants have either smooth or textured surfaces. Frequently in patients with textured surface implants, they are very likely to develop a type of cancer called Breast Implant-associated Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma (BIA-ALCL).

A type of cancer that mostly develops in the fluid or scar tissue surrounding the implant.

Now you are wondering if gummy bear breast implants are safe.
Well, the nature of the gummy bear breast implants are in such a way that they are so firm they are less likely to rupture and leak when implanted and they are smooth textured surface implants, hence, an even less likely chance of developing cancer ,

However, because of the firm nature of the gummy bear breast implants, detecting a leak will be extremely difficult. For this reason, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), recommends that patients go for an MRI screening 3 years after they are placed and every 2 years thereafter.

1) They are made only in ” teardrop” shapes: unlike silicone and saline gel implants, gummy bear breast implants are only in teardrop shapes which makes them more noticeable if they rotate out of place. This shape also makes the breast project more downward of the implantation than the top.

2) Longer incision: Given that gummy bear breast implants have firmer gel, placing them into the breast pocket will require a longer incision compared to other implants. This will lead to more visible scarring.

3) They cost more: Though very efficient, and less risky, gummy bear breast implants are more expensive than other forms of breast implants.

Regardless of the noteworthy results of the gummy bear breast implants, there are still risks associated with any surgical procedure, such as: i. Bleeding ii. Infection iii. Scarring iv. Change in nipple sensation v. Feeling of nausea from the anesthesia vi. Rupturing of the implant vii. Wrinkling of the breast tissue.

Although BIA-ALCL is more common in textured surface implants, in rare cases, it may be linked to smooth textured surface implants.

There is also the possibility of the implant rotating out of placjme. The longer you have breast implantation, the more likely you are to experience side effects.

So if you have decided to have a breast implant, here are a few precautions you should keep in mind to reduces your chances of being at risk of any of these considerations stated:

1. Talk to your surgeon and ask questions on anything you don’t understand
2. Maintain a steady body weight before the surgery, as any significant body change can change the appearance of your breast.
3. If you are pregnant or nursing, then you shouldn’t go for this procedure. Your doctor should advise against it anyway.

Gummy bear breast implants are less risky and more efficient compared to other forms of breast implant, though their efficiency comes at a high price. If you have concluded on having a gummy bear breast implant, you must find a well trained surgeon to undergo the procedure.
